About Renette

Renette never knew her mother. However, information from locals indicates that her mother battled mental health issues and was homeless. She came to CHOAIDS from another orphanage in Les Cayes, Haiti. At only six years old, she was left in front of an orphanage for boys. Even though they only cared for boys, they took her in to find a place that would accept her. Upon arrival, all the children received medical checkups, and Renette was no exception. Days after her physical exam and blood tests, she was found to have HIV. Not knowing what to do, the founder of the organization, who lives in South Carolina, searched the internet for a home that would accept children with Renette’s condition. The founder contacted Marie about Renette’s situation, and Marie contacted her team in Haiti. Weeks later, a staff member from the boys’ orphanage made the dangerous journey to Port-au-Prince, traveling through several gang-controlled areas to get Renette to her new home.

Since arriving in April 2021, Renette has blossomed into a playful and loving child. She is kind and loves her brothers and sisters at the orphanage. She aspires to be an educator when she grows up.
