Meet Malaika
About Malaika
Fourteen-year-old Malaika arrived at CHOAIDS from St-Louis du Nord on July 5, 2024. After her parents passed away, she lived with her grandmother until her grandmother could no longer care for her due to financial difficulties. Malaika found her way to CHOAIDS through an international organization that helped with school tuition for children living with HIV in her area. Unfortunately, the organization has since closed. Not knowing how she would attend school in the 2024-2025 school year, Malaika’s grandmother initiated contact with the CHOAIDS team for help. We sent funds for her travel from her hometown to us in Cap-Haitien.
Malaika has settled in with her new family and started tutoring since she is ready to learn below grade level. She is looking forward to attending school in the fall. When she grows up, she hopes to become a seamstress.
